An Apron a day keeps the doctor away: Apron 1- Shabby Chic

I am crazy about aprons, as you may already know...so after collecting "hundreds" of new and vintage aprons....I have started "producing" my own as there are not enough aprons in the world!

So I am going to publish an Apron a day this week!

The magic about an apron is :

The design - I like half aprons as they are simple, and a full skirt shape is perfect to cheer up a jeans skirt worn underneath

Practicality - Pockets are essentials! A large one or two smaller ones are the best! Also long straps are better than short!

Fabric - Pattern and print are essential. I like to mix Novelty prints with Vintage/Retro textiles ( 60' - 70' pillowcases and duvet covers/bedsheets are perfect!)

Texture - It is easy to create a nice contrast by mixing light and heavier fabris, crochets and terry clothes.

Embellishments - A good idea to create a special piece is adding stitched / patchwork novelty around the frame of the apron as well as ending the lower bit with crochet/lace .

Upcycling - Vintage doilies, crochets, trims, ribbons, old buttons... are perfect!

These books and magazines are great source of ideas!

Vintage patterns are also great fun and inspirational!

See you next time for a new handmade apron! xxx
